Prof. Fabio Sonvico was invited to go in the period from July 25 to September 4, 2015 at the Faculdade de Farmácia the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre in Brazil to participate in the bilateral project "Surface-modified nanocapsules for the nasal delivery of poorly soluble drugs: a strategy to treat neurodegenerative diseases" funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (CNPq) of Brazil.The project focuses on developing new pharmaceutical formulations that use nanotechnology to increase the nose-brain transport of substances not able to reach the central nervous system when administered in other ways. In particular, these formulations are based on the use of biocompatible materials, biodegradable and mucoadhesive polysaccharide such as a chitosan or hyaluronic acid. These formulations will facilitate the absorption local level of the nervous system while avoiding high systemic concentrations and possible side effects.
