Special issue for the 25th anniversary of the journal
To celebrate its 25 years of publication, the scientific journal Bioconjugate Chemistry, published by the American Chemical Society, has published a special issue containing a selection of the best articles published.
Among these was the work of 2005 "Folate-Conjugated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for Solid Tumor Targeting" in which they participated Fabio Sonvico and Paolo Colombo, professors of the Department of Pharmacy of our University.
The work has proposed the use of nanoparticles of iron oxides which face downwards specific receptors for folic acid, expressed in large number by some solid tumors. Thanks to the selective heating of the particles in the presence of an externally applied magnetic field, the treatment aims to eliminate in a specific and targeted cancer cells while reducing the damage to healthy tissue to a minimum.
The articles of the "25th Anniversary Collection" were selected from the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Vincent Rotello (University of Massachusetts, USA), as the best and most scientific impact published in the first quarter century of the journal Bioconjugate Chemistry.
