Lines of Research
Development of biotechnological processes for the valorization of by-products of agrifood supply chains and residual organic fractions.
Development of fermentative processes:
- Selection, enrichment and isolation of microbial cultures with specific metabolic capacities;
- Design, set-up and study of fermentative processes conducted in Erlenmeyer flasks or benchtop fermenters, under aerobic or anaerobic conditions;
- Optimization of the main operating parameters for the growth of pure or mixed cultures.
Recovery of products of fermentation processes (downstream):
- Development of solid- or liquid-phase extraction processes, after solid/liquid separation and possible cell lysis processes in case of intracellular product.
Chemical and molecular analyses with advanced instrumentation:
- Development of analytical protocols for targeted characterization of organic fractions of commercial interest;
- Use of advanced equipment for molecular characterization (chromatography, mass spectrometry, NMR).
