General informations
The Doctoral (Ph.D.) Course in Drug Sciences (Corso di Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze del Farmaco, formerly "Corso di Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze del Farmaco delle Biomolecole e dei Prodotti per la Salute") is organized by the Department of Food and Drug at the University of Parma. Its programme consists of a research project, under supervision by a member of the Board of Teachers, and educational activities; it is concluded with the preparation and defense of a Ph.D. thesis.
The programme takes three years, during which changes of scientific environment are strongly encouraged. It awards a Doctoral Degree (titolo di Dottore di ricerca), a research degree based on scientific bases and research experience in the design, discovery, development, production and control of drugs as well as in the investigation of mechanisms of action for drugs and bioactive molecules.
The Board of teachers offers and organizes courses and seminars in different scientific areas, with particular focus on:
- medicinal chemistry,
- pharmaceutical chemistry,
- pharmacology,
- biochemistry.
The research project of each PhD student has to be consistent with a research line included in one of the major areas covered by the programme:
- drug design and synthesis,
- biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics,
- experimental pharmacology and toxicology,
- biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology,
- bio-organic chemistry.

Statement of Rights and Responsibilities
The Statement of the Rights and Responsibilities of the Ph.D. students contains information about the organization of the Course and represents an agreement among the parts involved.
Ph.D. Programme: research, educational/training activity and credits
Ph.D. students, under the supervision of a member of the Board of Teachers, undertake a research project and follow specific courses and other educational activities. Educational activities concur to the accumulation of credits necessary to complete the Ph.D. Programme.
One ECTS credit (briefly, ECTS) can be achieved attending 6 hours of lessons or seminars, or participating to 1 day of National or International Schools or Workshops. For research activity, 1 ECTS corresponds to 25 hours (approximately 5 ECTS per month of full-time work).
To complete her/his 3-year Programme, a Ph.D. student must accumulate 180 ECTS, including at least 20 ECTS in educational activities. Educational ECTS are assigned by the speaker of the lesson/seminar, or by a member of the Board of Teachers, who checks the active participation by the Ph.D. Student.
A document (Annual and Final report) certifying the activities accomplished during each year must be delivered by the Ph.D. Student to her/his Supervisor, who will present it to the Board of Teachers for admission to the next years of the Programme or to the final examination.

Annual Progress Report and Final Report
PhD students, at the end of each year, have to fill in the Annual Report form, which must be approved by their supervisor. In the case of third year Ph.D. students, in order to be admitted to the Final Examination, a Final Report has to be completed in addition to the Annual Report. The Final Report has to be a short report about the research achievements and complementary activities during the entire 3-year PhD Course (this can be done simply by merging the three Annual Reports).
The report must be signed, converted in a pdf file and sent to didattica.farmacia@unipr.it with the indication of the Coordinator as supervisor.
The transmission deadline will be communicated via e-mail.
The empty forms are attached. Please rename the files with your cycle and name, e.g:
- AnnualReport20XX_CycleNumber_SurnameName.pdf;
- Final20XX_CycleNumber_SurnameName.pdf.
